Jun-Sub, célèbre écrivain d'âge moyen, apprend que sa mère est décédée. Au cours des obsèques coréennes traditionnelles, les invités ne semblent guère affectés par la mort de cette femme, sénile depuis cinq ans. Les conflits familiaux font surface lorsque Yong-Soon, petite-fille naturelle, réapparaît pour la première fois depuis treize ans, après avoir quitté le foyer familial avec de l'argent volé. Un journaliste présent aux obsèques fait son enquête sur la famille afin d'aborder sous un nouvel angle les écrits de Jun-Sub.
Jun-Sub, a famous middle-aged writer, learns that his mother has died. At the traditional Korean funeral, the guests don't seem saddened by the death of this woman who had been senile for the past five years. Family conflicts surface when Yong-Soon, a granddaughter out of wedlock, shows up for the first time in 13 years after leaving the house with stolen money. A reporter at the funeral investigates the family to interpret Jun-Sub's literature in a new light.
