Un policier des plus atypiques, timide, anxieux, qui se garde d'habitude de toute violence, est nommé à la tête du poste de police de Palle, petite ville du nord du Pérou, jadis foyer de la culture Moche, la plus sanguinaire des nations pré-incas, et cependant d'une grande beauté. L'histoire commence à Palle, avec une série de meurtres perpétrés dans la plus pure tradition Moche : des jeunes hommes décapités, un trou béant dans les orbites. Percy, le policier chargé de l'enquête, contacte une pathologiste espagnole et un professeur spécialiste de la culture Moche. Les compétences professionnelles de la pathologiste aident Percy dans sa chasse à l'assassin. La relation qui lie Percy et la pathologiste devient plus intime et suscite chez lui de puissants élans "sous la peau" qu'il est incapable de contrôler. En même temps, sa relation avec l'assassin révèle la face obscure qui existe en chacun de nous, depuis la nuit des temps.
A most unlikely police officer - timid, insecure who never resorts to violence is appointed head of the police force in Palle, a small town in the north of Peru, home in times gone of the Moche culture, the most bloody and yet beautiful nation of the pre-Inca era. The story begins in Palle with a series of crimes that are commited in full Moche tradition : young decapitated men with the sockets of their eyes emptied. The police officer, Percy, who is in charge of the investigation, contacts a Spanish pathologist and a professor who is an expert on the Moche culture. The professional skills of the pathologist put Percy onto the right track for hunting down the assassin. The relationship between Percy and the pathologist becomes more and more intimate until it finally breaks into a passionate love affair, causing strong impulses "under the skin" that he is unable to control. At the same time, his relationship with the assassin reveals the dark side that has existed all of us for millions and millions of years.
