Ah-Chung vit dans une famille instable dans un bidonville près d'une réserve d'animaux sauvages. Son frère, handicapé mental, a failli être renversé par un camion qui avait l'intention de déverser illégalement des ordures à cet endroit. Pour apaiser les dieux et pour délivrer la famille de la malchance et autres malheurs, la mère d'Ah-Chung oblige son fils à entrer dans une troupe de spectacles religieux. Il fait ce qu'on attend de lui à contre-coeur, mais la chance et les dieux ne se manifestent pas et de terribles tragédies surviennent.
Ah-Chung lives with his unstable family in a shanty town next to a wildlife reservation zone. His mentally ill brother almost gets knocked over by a truck which intended to illegally dump waste there. To appease the gods and rid the family of bad luck and other mysterious miseries, Ah-Chung's mother makes him join a religious performing troupe. He reluctantly does what is expected of him. Yet good luck and the gods are nowhere in sight and terrible tragedies occur.
