En 1979, l'actuelle république indépendante du Kazakhstan faisait partie de l'ancienne Union soviétique. Le film raconte l'histoire de trois lycéens ayant abandonné leurs études, Karim, Zheka et Valerka, à une époque où le strict respect du régime communiste transformait les citoyens en traîtres et indicateurs, y compris à l'encontre de leurs parents et amis. Un soir, après avoir consommé trop d'alcool, de cigarettes et de marijuana, ils cambriolent un hôtel. Apprenant l'incident le lendemain, le beau-père de Valerka prévient la police qui arrête le jeune homme. Karim et Zheka ont l'intention de se venger du beau-père; ils le poignardent accidentellement tandis que Valerka, rudement interrogé par la police, tente de protéger ses amis.
In 1979, the now-independant Republic of Kazakhstan was a part of the former Soviet Union. With three high-school drop-outs, Karim, Zheka, and Valerka as main characters, the film unfolds into the youth drama taking place in the time when the strict observation by the Communist Party regime made citizens int traitors and informers, even against their families and friends. One night, under the influence of too much liquor, cigarettes and marijuana, they rob a hotel. Noticing the incident next day, Valerka's stepfather informs the police and he is arrested. Karim and Zheka plan to take revenge against his stepfather and accidentally stab him to death whereas Valerka, going through severe questioning by police, tries to protect his friends.
