L'homme de l'histoire, c'est Kunjunni. A son entrée à l'université, le communisme est à la mode et il y adhère naturellement. Mais il est rapidement dégoûté par les partis politiques en place et fort de ses convictions, il rejoint les rangs d'un groupe maoïste. Lorsque les commissariats de police et les propriétaires terriens sont attaqués, Kunjunni, qui tient une imprimerie en ville, est le suspect numéro1 et il est arrêté. Finalement, il est libéré de prison car la cour le déclare non coupable. Homme libre et seul, il recherche son amie d'enfance, Meenakshi. Il la retrouve, l'épouse et l'emmène dans la maison de ses ancêtres.
Kunjunni is the man of the story. Entering college, communism is fashionable and he takes it up naturally. But he soon gets disgusted with the existing political parties and true to his convictions, he joins a Maoist faction. Kunjunni, who has been running a print shop in town, is an unmistakable suspect and is arrested when police stations and landlords are attacked. Eventually, he is released from prison when the court judges him not guilty. Now a lonely free man, he searches for his childhood friend, Meenakshi. He finds her, marries her and takes her to his ancestral house.
